LAN / Private Server Hosting (Updated 6/15/2015)
What is it?
Technically, this isn't LAN, but it's very close to it. Essentially what you are doing is running your own photon server on your computer and having players connect directly to your computer rather than Feng's default cloud server.
Props to Josh for making all of this possible.
Why use it?
Running your own photon server let's you control the server logic, which allows for forcefully disconnecting players (impossible in the cloud server), banning by IP address, and will lower ping significantly depending on your internet connection and location.
How do I connect to private servers?
You or a friend must be hosting a photon server on their computer. In the multiplayer screen, click on the 'LAN' button in the bottom left. Then, enter the IP address of the person who is hosting the server. The port will usually be '5055'. The admin password is for authentication by the server, which will allow you permission to kick or ban players from the server.
IMPORTANT: If you are the person hosting the server, the IP address you enter will be your Local IP. If you are NOT the person hosting the server, the IP address you enter will be the host's external IP address.
You can find both here: http://www.bobborst.com/tools/whatsmyip/
How do I set up a server?
Follow Josh's tutorial here to run your own photon server: http://aotanticheat.weebly.com/Server-Hosting.html
MAKE SURE THE .RAR FILE YOU DOWNLOAD IS UNBLOCKED. To do this, right click the RAR file, go to properties, and at the bottom click "unblock".
You MUST have everything port forwarded correctly.
To connect to your own server, enter your local IP address. To let your friends connect to your server, give them your external IP address.
What's different?
Besides being on a different server than the cloud, a few commands are different.
/kick will now work for all players with an 'admin' permission even if they're not MC.
/ban is now restricted to 'admin' players and will ban the person's IP address.
Only the server host can see the list of banned IP addresses for now, and can use /unban IP to unban the player.
